#473 new defect

svndigest requires X server

Reported by: Peter Johansson Owned by: Jari Häkkinen
Priority: minor Milestone: svndigest 0.x+
Component: build Version: trunk
Keywords: Cc:

Description

I tried the following

$ ssh william@...
Try to have a lot of fun...
$ cd /path/to/jaris/pristine/svndigest/stable
$ ./svndigest --version
qt_driver: cannot connect to X server

In other words we cannot run svndigest without an X server. Is this requirement really wanted/needed? Or is it out of our control? Could it be fixed upstream (in which case we could report upstream)?

For the record this is not with trunk but with branches/0.8-stable rev 1173.

If you connect with ssh -X then the problem goes away but it is not really a solution.

The problem is that the plplot I installed for testing purposes generates a qt.so that is loaded during an svndigest run. (One would like to have lazy loading since we never use qt but are indirectly depended on it in this case.) I disabled qt in the plplot buiild configuration, rebuilt and the problem goes away. I don't know and cannot test the behaviour with an officially distributed plplot. Maybe the issues is not there?

If the issue is there also for packages installed by the OS provider then we need to look for a way to disable load of the offending driver.

Maybe we should close this as wontfix.
