GmailConkyNotifier

GmailConkyNotifier is a small program used to check your gmail account. The program directs output to a textfile that can be used by programs like Conky to display unread email messages on the desktop.

First fetch the source with your favourite version control system:

git clone http://home.thep.lu.se/~sahlin/git/GmailConkyNotifier.git

The program requires openssl and expat to compile. Compile the program with make. A binary called GmailConkyNotifier is created. The program takes two mandatory and one optional argument. The first agument is the name of your gmail account, for example "anders.anonym@…". The second argument is the file to which you want to direct the output. The third and optional argument is a command that you want to be executed every time a new email message has been found. This third argument can be used to play a sound as notification. Please note that the program will ask you to enter your password, but as C++ lacks native control of your terminal, the password will most likely be echoed to your screen.

To use the program with Conky, use the built in tail command.
